Moving into a new home from Hartz Construction is exciting for you and your family. You are probably eager to make your new surroundings comfortable and familiar, especially for your children.  Here are some great ideas to help your kids feel right at home easily and quickly.

Get down and get funky.
A homebuyer in Hibernia of New Lenox said the first thing she did was to drop down to her child’s level. She felt the only way to experience the space from her child’s point of view was to get on the floor of her child’s room and check it out. What can be reached? What are the potential dangers? How easy or hard is it to put things away? What could you add to make picking up more fun? She had some fun acting like a kid again!

Make storage fun.
A mom in Whisper Creek of Mokena wanted to have all her child’s favorite things close at hand. Maximizing storage space in fun and interesting ways was her solution.  She slid colorful storage bins with lesser used items under the bed, and maximized corners with corner cabinets and shelves for books and knickknacks. Space under a window served double duty, as a window seat with storage. She also emphasized safety by securing furniture and shelves, and adding childproof window locks.

Let the kid be the boss.
Kids love to help make decisions in their room and they should—after all, it’s their space. A dad in Marquis Pointe of Montgomery let his son help choose ways to set up their furniture and other items. He explained to his son how everything would be used and suggested options for placement. The dad found that his son was proud of his room and had a ton of fun playing in it.

Make it fresh and bright.
Everything in your new Hartz home is fresh and clean, from floor to the ceilings. A homeowner in Sky Harbor of New Lenox wanted her children’s things to be fresh and clean too. She bought brightly colored bins for toys and art supplies. Then, she painted the furniture to match the new color scheme.

Put clothes within reach.
Kids love to pick out their own clothes. A homeowner in Marywood Meadows of Aurora added a lower clothing rod in her child’s closet. She saved the higher rod for off-season items.
