Before many people move into their brand new Hartz Home, they like to get rid of all the stuff from the old place that they won’t be needing.  We asked a few of them how they accomplish the task, and discovered the popularity of the digital marketplace accessed by websites and apps. Here are few of their favorites.

  1. Letgo

A homeowner in Hibernia (New Lenox) told us about the letgo app. It offers a free service with secure transactions which are relatively local.   What sets this app apart is that everything is clearly organized into categories as part of the platform that the app uses. This adds a simplicity to searching the app that should help buyers connect to the right sellers.

  1. Shpock

Shpock is a lot like Craigslist sans the well-known creepiness, according to a buyer in Whisper Creek (Mokena).  It’s designed to sell your stuff locally, taking the shipping and handling out of the equation. Those hard to ship items like bikes, couches, and tvs are great for Shpock.

  1. Offerup

If safety is your concern, then Overup is where you should start. It created the TruYou system to verify the identity of buyers and sellers.

The TruYou system works with the site’s app for Android and Apple phones.

A homeowner in Bella Vista (Bolingbrook) found that selling was simple with this app. She just took a photo of the item, added details like asking price and uploaded it. The whole process was done in no time.

  1. Poshmark.com

For your better clothing items, a buyer in Sky Harbor (New Lenox) feels that Poshmark is a great option. There’s a huge market for purchasing previously owned designer goods, and this is the perfect place to sell if you are ready to part with these treasures.

  1. Chairish

There’s finally a platform for selling vintage furniture and decor. A woman who bought a townhome in Oliviabrook (Oakbrook Terrace) told us about Chairish, a beautifully designed and easy to navigate app. Artwork, stylish furniture, and fancy rugs are all sold here.

  1. GSALR.com

If you decide to have a for-real garage sale after all, you can go digital to attract buyers. That’s where GSALR.com comes in.

People use the site to find nearby garage sales. After entering their location, red location flags pop up that can be clicked for more details like time and location of the sale.

You can add your own location and details for your garage sale to be included in the search results.

Bonus: Freecycle

What do you do if you have used items you can’t sell? Don’t just throw it in the trash…give them away on Freecycle.

The Freecycle Network is a non-profit organization that lets you post your unwanted items to give away. To get started, create a free account and post the items you want to get rid of. Be sure to include a full description and photos help, too.

Lose stuff, find extra dollars!

Join the digital revolution to help in your move. You can get rid of the stuff you don’t want to take along…and make some extra money in the deal!
