Employees of Hartz Construction had fun decorating the lobby Christmas tree with a “construction” theme. Tools, miniature bull dozers, and blueprints were cheerfully hung from the branches. And, it was topped with a star made from a folding ruler!

Why not challenge your family to decorate the tree in a theme relating to your family? Here are a few ideas to get you started.

Aloha! What about a Hawaiian theme, using seashells, starfish, pineapples and tropical flowers?

Let’s play! Try decorating a second tree in your child’s playroom. You could trim the tree with colorful, bold ornaments, bright-colored toys, sock monkeys, and other small stuffed animals for a playful spin. The colors and toy ornaments would blend seamlessly into the playroom’s design

White winter wonderland! Decorate a white Christmas tree with simple, while metallic ornaments and white lights. To complete the look, place white and silver gifts underneath.

Keep it sweet! Candy canes are a staple holiday treat. Hang them all over the tree along with red and white lights. Use a red berry tree topper as a special touch.

Trees to go! Trade your tree’s skirt for wheels so they can change locations within the home. Just anchor your tree in a vintage wagon for a new take on an old-school look.

Frosty the Snowman! Give a white Christmas tree an adorable snowman makeover. All you need is a white Styrofoam ball on top of the tree for Frosty’s head. Use a carrot for the nose and don’t forget the corn-cob pipe. Add a stove-top hat, red scarf, twigs for arms, and a few black ornaments to make the buttons.

For the chef in you! Here’s a theme that’s great for a kitchen or dining room. Just hang utensils and kitchenware from the tree limbs using a colored string.

United we stand! For a patriotic theme, use shimmering red, white and blue ornaments and small American flags. Light them up with white twinkle lights.

Take note! For the music room (or simply by a piano), decorate your tree with miniature instruments, song sheets, and shimmering CDs.

Go team go!  Your family can go bananas decorating the tree in the theme of your favorite sports team. Tickets, hats, balls, sportswear, ornaments and lights in your team’s color, a helmet for the topper…you name it!

Merry Christmas and happy holidays from all of us at Hartz Construction!
